On Monday, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said that the ‘Cairo Declaration’ on Libya was consistent with international and UN efforts.

“The Cairo Declaration, which Egypt called for, is based on its desire to achieve political and security stability for the Libyan state. It resulted in a comprehensive political initiative to end the conflict in Libya.” Shoukry said during his a symposium entitled ‘Egyptian diplomacy: dealing with the current challenges’ organized by the Egyptian Business Council for International Cooperation.

Shoukry added that the initiative was “consistent with existing international and UN initiatives. It aims to ensure equitable representation of all three Libyan regions, unify its institutions, and organize its role in a manner that qualifies it to carry out its tasks, while ensuring a fair and transparent distribution of Libya’s wealth”.

Last week, Egyptian President Abdel-Fatah El-Sisi launched the ‘Cairo Declaration’, which was welcomed by many countries that hope to see an end to the conflict in Libya.
