IOM Discusses Migrant Situation In Libya

The Undersecretary of the Minister of Interior for Illegal Immigration, Mohamed Al- Shaibani, met on Tuesday with the head of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Libya. This was to discuss the migration crisis in the country.

According to the statement by the Ministry of Interior, the officials discussed the situation of vulnerable migrant groups, such as women and children, in the city of Misrata, and appropriate solutions for them.

The meeting also discussed the latest developments regarding the Assisted Voluntary Return of Irregular Migrants (AVRIM) program. Especially in light of the worldwide spread of COVID-19. Voluntary return schemes help illegal migrants, in any country to return to their country of origin.

The meeting concluded with the agreement for continuous communication between the Organization, and the Ministry to resolve any difficulties facing migrants.
