On Tuesday, Yousef Ibderi, the mayor of Ghiryan, revealed that armed militias affiliated with Osama Al-Juweili, the military commander of the Western Military Zone, attacked the city’s municipality headquarters. They injured a policeman, and caused material damage in the city.
In a statement, Ibderi said that the militias sabotaged the municipality building; especially the workplaces of the emergency committee, concerned with the cash-flow. He noted that the gunmen claimed that their attack was due to the municipality’s support for reshaping the Military Council.
Ibderi claimed that “violence will not do any good, and any problem will be settled only through legal means”, noting that “The attackers involved, will surely be referred to the legal authorities”.
The mayor confirmed that he will submit a report to the Attorney General in Tripoli over the incident.
