Libyan Interior Minister of the Parliament-designate government, Essam Abu Zariba, held an extensive meeting to review the security situation in the city of Ghat and its surrounding border areas.

During the meeting, the Interior Minister met with the head of the General Administration for Central Support in Ghat, as well as the heads of the Drug and Psychotropic Substances Control Agency and the Criminal Investigation Department and his deputy.

Also present were the Ministry of Interior’s spokesperson and the head of the General Assembly along with several members of the Tuareg Tribal Council.

The Libyan government’s media office stated that the meeting addressed the challenges facing the operations of the Interior Ministry’s agencies in Ghat.

It also included a review of the security efforts undertaken by Interior Ministry members in the municipality, highlighting the deficiencies in security apparatus in Ghat and the necessity to address them.

In December, Abu Zariba affirmed the ministry’s commitment to enhancing stability and security in the eastern and southern regions. He emphasised providing the necessary support, and collaboration with all components of the ministry.

During a meeting with the Security Director of Ubari, Brigadier Ali Aabid Al-Zintani, the minister discussed various issues related to the ongoing efforts to maintain effective operations, and bolster security in the region.

The Ministry of Interior reported that the meeting addressed challenges, obstacles, and difficulties confronting security efforts in the region.

The discussions aimed to find suitable solutions to overcome these challenges, along with evaluating the tasks undertaken by the directorate in preserving security and safety.

Libya has faced significant political and social instability since the 2011 revolution and the fall of Muammar Gaddafi. The nation struggles with internal conflicts between rival governments and militias, impacting its economic stability and humanitarian conditions. International efforts focus on restoring peace and building a unified government.
