Italian Military Delegation Discusses Training Libyan Coast Guard

A meeting took place in Tripoli between officials from the Ministry of Defence of Libya’s Government of National Accord and an Italian military delegation. The two sides focused on training and rehabilitation programs for the Libyan Coast Guard with respect to the issue of illegal migration.

The Chief of General Staff of the GNA’s armed forces, Mohammed Al-Mahdi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Defence, Salah Al-Din Al-Namroush, and Italian Ambassador to Libya Giuseppe Buccino discussed enhancing cooperation between both countries to curb the flow of migrants to Europe.

Buccino stressed his keenness on security cooperation with Libya to serve the common interests of both countries. Al-Namroush praised the role played by Italy to establish peace and security in Libya.
