Director of the Libya Development and Reconstruction Fund, Belgasim Haftar, has signed new contracts for various projects in Derna and the Green Mountain cities. The agreements were made with the Egyptian company Neom, the fund announced on Saturday.

The signing saw the participation of former Egyptian Minister of Housing and Urban Utilities, Assem El-Gazzar, and Chairman of Al-Argani Group, Ibrahim Al-Argani, representing the Egyptian side.

El-Gazzar stepped down from his ministerial role last Wednesday and was succeeded by engineer Sherif El-Sherbini, who was sworn in as the new Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities.

In a press statement shared by the Development and Reconstruction Fund on Facebook, Al-Argani confirmed that his company had signed contracts to implement six new projects. He pledged to support and accompany the Libyans in their reconstruction and development efforts.

On 21 January, the government appointed by the House of Representatives, led by Osama Hamad, announced the signing of “major contracts” with Egyptian companies to construct 11 new bridges. These projects are spread across Derna, Benghazi, and Ajdabiya, with six in Derna and three in Benghazi.

The signing ceremony was attended by Hatem Al-Aribi, Chairman of the Reconstruction and Stability Committee; Belkacem Khalifa Haftar, Executive Director of the Derna Reconstruction Fund; and Ibrahim Al-Argani, Chairman of Neom. Also present was Hani Dhahi, Chairman of Wadi El-Nile Company.

These developments mark a significant step in Libya’s ongoing efforts to rebuild and develop key infrastructure, with strong support from Egyptian firms. The collaboration is expected to bolster the reconstruction process in the affected cities and enhance the overall development of the region.
