Early Friday morning, residents of Zliten were startled by a series of explosions lasting several minutes, caused by an explosion at a weapon depot in a military base. The cause of the explosion is still unknown.

Mustafa Al-Bahbah, a member of the Zliten Municipal Council, told Al-Ahrar that the explosion occurred at 4 a.m. at the headquarters of the “Al-Ayan” Battalion, located among residential areas. The sounds of the explosions lasted for several minutes, and the cause remains unidentified. He confirmed that there were no human casualties among the citizens.

Similarly, Taher Al-Shatshati, the Director of the Zliten Branch of the Ambulance and Emergency Services, told Al-Ahrar that no injuries were reported among the citizens. He noted that some houses near the battalion’s headquarters sustained minor damages.

Several videos circulated on social media showing plumes of smoke and flames rising from the military base in Zliten, accompanied by the sound of successive explosions. Conflicting reports about the cause of the explosion have emerged.
