SOHR: Turkey Training Thousands of Syrians To Fight in Libya

According to statistics by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), the number of recruits who arrived in Libya has risen to approximately 15,800 Syrian fighters.

The SOHR said in statements to Al-Hadath television channel on Friday that Turkey had recruited approximately 16,000 Syrians to fight in Libya, of which 5,600 have returned to Syria.

The Syrians are sent to fight alongside the forces of the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA) against the Libyan National Army (LNA), which is led by Field Marshall Khalifa Haftar.

The Observatory pointed out that it monitored the return of a new batch of Syrians from Libya, following the end of their contracts.

Ankara continues to escalate its involvement in the Libyan conflict by supporting the GNA with weapons and fighters.

This comes despite Turkey participating and agreeing to the outcomes of the Berlin Conference, during which foreign states active in Libya agreed to uphold the UN arms embargo.
