On Wednesday, Libyan Prime Minister of the Parliament-designated Government Osama Hammad embarked on a significant diplomatic mission to the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, where he was warmly received by President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani at the Presidential Palace in Nouakchott.
The visit marked a key moment in the strengthening of relations between Libya and Mauritania, with discussions centered on deepening cooperation across various sectors and reinforcing the historic ties between the two nations.
On his part, Mauritanian President Ghazouani expressed his deep appreciation for Prime Minister Hamad’s visit, praising the resilience and cultural richness of the Libyan people. He also acknowledged the leadership of Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan National Army, extending his best wishes for peace, stability, and prosperity in Libya. The president emphasized the enduring connections between the Libyan people and their heritage, culture, and land.
During the talks, President Ghazouani thanked Prime Minister Hammad for inviting him to visit Benghazi and engage with the Libyan National Army, the Parliament, and the Libyan government. He reaffirmed Mauritania’s commitment to supporting Libya’s quest for a political resolution and comprehensive national reconciliation, in collaboration with the African Union.
The leaders also highlighted the long-standing relationship between Libya and Mauritania, noting Libya’s foundational role in both the Arab Maghreb Union and the African Union. They pledged to strengthen bilateral relations further and to implement existing agreements, particularly in areas such as economics, investment, and joint ministerial cooperation.
Meanwhile, Hammad expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and hospitality extended by President Ghazouani. He conveyed the appreciation of the Libyan people, the Libyan National Army, and the members of the House of Representatives for Mauritania’s ongoing efforts to enhance bilateral cooperation.
Additionally, the Libyan Prime Minister congratulated President Ghazouani on his re-election for a second term, achieved through free and fair elections. He reiterated the Libyan government’s commitment to deepening ties with Mauritania across all sectors, emphasizing the importance of implementing treaties, agreements, and memorandums of understanding.
The Libyan government’s media office described Hammad’s visit as a pivotal event that strengthened the Libyan government’s legitimacy and its diplomatic efforts with allied nations. This visit to Mauritania follows Prime Minister Hammad’s recent diplomatic trip to Egypt, where he met with Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly.
