On Monday, French President Emmanuel Macron said that there was no military solution to the Libyan crisis and reiterated his call for an immediate resumption of political dialogue in Libya.

These remarks came during Macron’s speech on the occasion of France’s National Day, calling for the formation of a common European policy for the Mediterranean.

“There can be no lasting peace in the Mediterranean without Europe, and we cannot accept that our fate be decided by foreign countries”, Macron noted.

He added that Libya’s stability was essential for the security of Europe and the African Sahel countries, stressing that there was no possible military solution to the crisis.

Macron has recently confirmed that Paris does not back the Libyan National Army, led by Field Marshal Khalifa Hafter, adding that “[France’s] goal is to reach a political solution in Libya”.

He also denounced Turkey’s repeated interference in Libya, disregarding all the commitments made during the Berlin International Conference on Libya.
