Belgassim Haftar, Director-General of the Libya Development and Reconstruction Fund and Executive Director of the Derna and Affected Cities Reconstruction Fund, has launched an initiative to integrate engineering students from Derna University into the city’s reconstruction efforts.
The initiative aims to involve Libya’s young talents in national development and reconstruction projects, fostering their skills and promoting their role in rebuilding Derna. According to a statement on the fund’s Facebook page, this initiative will offer engineering students the opportunity to collaborate with both local and international companies engaged in reconstruction work.
The fund explained that through this initiative, students will participate in various ongoing projects overseen by the fund. These engagements will provide valuable field experience, enabling students to apply their academic knowledge in real-world scenarios, further enhancing their practical skills. By participating in such projects, students will not only contribute to the rebuilding process but also gain professional experience that will benefit their future careers.
In addition, the fund organised an inspection tour of ongoing reconstruction projects in Derna, accompanied by a group of engineering students. The visit allowed the students to witness the ongoing efforts to rebuild the city first-hand. This hands-on experience is seen as crucial in preparing the next generation of engineers who will play a significant role in Libya’s future development.
The initiative reflects the fund’s commitment to not only restoring Derna but also empowering the country’s youth by providing them with opportunities to be involved in this transformative process.
