The French Ambassador to Italy, Christian Masset, confirmed France’s cooperation with
the Italian government to achieve stability in Libya and to stop foreign interference in the country.

The French diplomat made the remarks on Tuesday, saying that France was “committed to
achieving stability in Libya, without foreign interference” and adding that Rome and Paris would “work together for peace and the protection of pluralism. We will work together for a broader interaction in Africa”.

The Libyan crisis is one of the main topics of the joint Italian-French talks that have been taking place over the past few days in Rome, conducted by Italian Defense Minister Lorenzo Guerrini and his French counterpart, Florence Parly.

The two parties confirmed their shared commitment to combating violations of the UN arms embargo on Libya. They stressed the need to relaunch the Berlin peace process and achieve a permanent ceasefire in the country.

On Wednesday, Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte expressed his hope to strengthen cooperation with France to reach a stable and permanent solution to the Libyan crisis.

In statements published by the French Embassy in Rome on the occasion of ‘Bastille Day’ celebrations, Conte said that there were many opportunities for enhancing cooperation between Italy and France.
