On Thursday, the Russian Foreign Ministry called on the warring parties in Libya to immediately agree to a ceasefire and begin comprehensive political dialogue.

“We call on the warring parties not to allow a new escalation,” Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said in a press briefing.

“We also call on them to agree to an immediate and sustainable ceasefire,” she said, adding “Of course, we call on them to launch a comprehensive political dialogue on the basis of UN Security Council resolutions”.

Zakharova noted that the situation on the ground in Libya remains tense, pointing out that according to some reports “the warring Libyan parties took a break to regroup their forces and resume the armed confrontation”.
