Member of the Libyan House of Representatives (HoR) Mohammed Al-Abani said on Saturday that Turkey’s military presence on Libyan soil threatens Arab and African national security.
Al-Abani asserted the necessity of activating a joint Arab defense agreement to preserve the country’s national security.
In a statement on his Facebook page, Al-Abani said that Egypt, Tunisia, and Algeria are among the countries that are most threatened by the Turkish presence in Libya.
Civil war broke out in Libya after the toppling of long-time ruler Muammar Gaddafi in 2011, who was later killed.
Numerous militias are fighting for power and influence in the country, with Tripoli-allied militias backed mainly by Turkey and Qatar.
Meanwhile, eastern-based commander Khalifa Haftar’s Libyan National Army is backed by the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, France and Russia.
