The Director General of the Libyan Development and Reconstruction Fund, Belgassim Khalifa Haftar, held talks with the French Ambassador to Libya, Mostafa Mihraje, on Monday.
The meeting focused on key issues, including preparations for the Libyan-French Development and Reconstruction Forum, which is scheduled to take place in Benghazi at the end of November. Both sides discussed the participation of French companies in Libya’s reconstruction efforts, particularly in specialised service sectors.
Ambassador Mihraje highlighted that development and reconstruction are essential for Libya’s stability. He also praised the Fund’s role in supporting important service projects in Derna and the eastern and southern regions, which have long been in need of such development efforts.
Last month, Libyan Prime Minister of the Parliament-designate government Osama Hammad, alongside General Director of the Libya Development and Reconstruction Fund, Belgassim Haftar, and Chairman of the Reconstruction and Stability Committee, Hatem Al-Areebi, conducted an inspection visit to several ongoing projects in the city of Derna. This visit aimed to assess the progress of key reconstruction efforts.
According to the government’s media office, the tour included visits to various sites such as the Al-Sahaba Mosque, the collective medical clinics, public housing complexes, and essential service and health facilities. These projects are part of a larger effort to rebuild and stabilise the region.
Prime Minister Hammad expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the Derna Reconstruction Fund and the teams working on these projects. He highlighted the significant progress made, with many projects reaching advanced stages within a short period of time. This was especially noted in Derna and other areas of the Green Mountain region, which have suffered damage and are in need of reconstruction.
Hammad further stressed that the Libyan government, despite the challenging circumstances, is fully committed to fulfilling its responsibilities and doing everything within its capacity to provide the necessary services and support to the citizens. The government continues to prioritise the essential needs of the Libyan people and aims to ensure that all projects are completed to a high standard.
