Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has claimed that his government supports the “legitimate” Libyan authorities, the Government of National Accord (GNA), in a manner that is “consistent” with their joint agreements.
“We are closely following the recent developments in Libya and no one should get excited, we will not give them a chance”, President Erdogan said in a speech on Tuesday. He claimed that Ankara would claim its rights without infringing on others.
Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi previously announced his political settlement the ‘Cairo Declaration’ and called for the resumption of political negotiations and to de-escalate the military buildup near Sirte.
Turkey has rejected political negotiations until Sirte and Al-Jufra are under complete GNA control. Egyptian President El-Sisi warned of the danger of overcoming the current situation in Sirte.
The Libyan Parliament and a tribal delegation authorized the Egyptian army to support the Libyan National Army (LNA) in countering Turkey’s intervention.
On Monday, the Egyptian Parliament announced its approval of the Egyptian Presidential request to send troops to Libya.
