Egypt Says Ceasefire Only Way To Achieve Libya’s Stability and Security

Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry stated that the stability and security of Libya would only be achieved by working towards a ceasefire and by reaching a Libyan-led political solution through negotiations.

This is what the Cairo Declaration perceives as an essential step towards completing the Berlin Conference’s political track.

Shoukry’s remarks came during a series of phone calls with the European Union’s High Representative for Security and Foreign Policy Josep Borrell, Italian Foreign Minister Luigi di Maio, Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias, and Maltese Foreign Minister Evarist Bartolo.

The Egyptian Foreign Minister also stressed the need to firmly address the foreign Intervention in Libya, warning of the danger of the escalating conflict, especially given the transporting of fighters and extremists to Libya.

These risk destabilizing the region, as well as the Arab world’s security and its peoples’ capabilities.
