On Thursday, Prime Minister of the Government of National Accord (GNA), Fayez Al-Sarraj, held a meeting with the foreign ministers of Turkey and Malta. They discussed the most recent developments in Libya, and the importance of resuming the political process to end the conflict.

In a statement, the GNA’s media office said that the meeting tackled a number of common concerns among Libya, Malta and Turkey. Such concerns include joint cooperation and the review of available opportunities for the implementation of projects during the coming period.

The statement indicated that they also discussed the possibility of operating commercial flights between the three countries. They also discussed ways of ensuring a comprehensive monitoring of Libya’s land, sea and air borders, by the EU’s IRINI naval operation.

The meeting touched on the issue of illegal immigration and ways to confront human traffickers. Both Turkey and Malta expressed their appreciation for the humanitarian role played by Libya, in combatting this phenomenon.

Libya has been marred in chaos since the 2011 overthrow of longtime leader Muammar Gaddafi, with rival political, and armed groups battling for control.
