A 21-year-old Libyan woman lost her life in Tripoli’s Ain Zara district when a grenade struck her home in the Hay Tariq Al-Shouk neighbourhood during the recent wave of intense armed clashes that have rocked the capital.

The heartbreaking incident was shared on social media by a local physician who witnessed the tragedy firsthand. According to the doctor, the young woman — the only daughter in a family of brothers — had been preparing for her upcoming wedding, which was set to take place in the coming months.

In a moving Facebook post, the doctor wrote:

“It was one of the most painful scenes I have ever experienced — to see her father and brother collapse in tears as they received her body. I couldn’t help but share in their grief.”

He added that the young woman died instantly as a result of the explosion. Reflecting on the senseless nature of the violence, he lamented:

“She was waiting for her wedding dress, not the shrapnel of a war where no one knows who’s fighting or why.”

The tragedy underscores the devastating human cost of the ongoing militia violence in Tripoli, which has escalated in recent days following fierce confrontations between rival armed groups in various parts of the city.
