Saudi Arabia Reiterates its Welcome of Ceasefire in Libya

The Saudi Council of Ministers reiterated the Kingdom’s welcome of a ceasefire in Libya. This comes days after the issuance of two separate statements by the Presidency Council of the Government of National Accord (GNA), and the Libyan Parliament.

According to the Saudi Press Agency, the Council of Ministers headed by King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, reviewed several reports on developments in local, Arab, regional, and international arenas.

The Council stressed the need to begin an internal political dialogue that places Libya’s national interests above all considerations.

It called for a permanent political solution that would guarantee security and stability for the Libyan people, as well as prevent foreign interference that endangers Arab regional security.

On Friday, Libya’s GNA announced a nationwide ceasefire, and ordered its forces to halt all military operations across the country. The GNA’s PM also called for presidential and parliamentary elections to be held in March.
