The Libyan Post Telecommunications and Information Technology Company (LPTIC) has announced that Libya is close to launching fifth-generation (5G) mobile services, marking a major step forward in the modernization of the country’s telecommunications sector and its broader digital transformation agenda.

In an official statement, the company said the 5G service will be introduced through Almadar Aljadeed, which will become the first national operator to provide 5G connectivity in Libya. The launch is expected to take place once the final technical, regulatory, and operational preparations for the first phase are completed.

LPTIC explained that the rollout of 5G is part of a comprehensive strategy to upgrade telecommunications infrastructure, improve service quality, and align Libya’s networks with international technological standards. The company stressed that expanding advanced digital services is essential to supporting economic growth, enhancing competitiveness, and meeting the rapidly increasing demand for high-speed internet.

According to the holding company, 5G technology will deliver significantly faster data speeds, reduced latency, and improved network efficiency. These capabilities are expected to support smart city solutions, digital government platforms, and large institutions that depend on stable and high-capacity internet services for daily operations.

For individual users, the new service is expected to transform the mobile internet experience by enabling seamless browsing, uninterrupted high-definition and ultra-high-definition video streaming, and improved performance for data-intensive applications such as cloud services, online gaming, and video conferencing. LPTIC noted that the technology will also help ease congestion in densely populated urban areas.

Analysts say the introduction of 5G could help narrow Libya’s digital gap and create new opportunities across sectors such as education, healthcare, financial technology, and e-commerce. The deployment is also seen as a potential driver for innovation and private-sector investment in information and communications technology.
