A US federal court has dismissed the final remaining civil lawsuit filed against Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, the Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan National Army (LNA).

The court decided on Wednesday to issue a summary judgment in his favor, effectively ending years of litigation in the United States.

On February 20, 2026, the US District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia granted a motion for summary judgment submitted by Haftar’s defense team.

Under US federal law, a summary judgment is issued when a court determines that there is no sufficient legal or factual basis for a case to proceed to trial.

The ruling, therefore, resulted in the dismissal of the lawsuit at the trial court level without the need for further proceedings.

The case was part of a series of civil claims brought before US courts in recent years in connection with developments related to the Libyan conflict.

Over nearly seven years, the litigation involved extensive legal filings, evidentiary submissions, and court hearings conducted under the supervision of the federal judiciary.

According to the court’s decision, the judge concluded that the plaintiffs did not meet the legal standards required to sustain their claims under applicable federal statutes.

After reviewing the record and arguments presented, the court found that no genuine dispute of material fact existed that would justify moving forward to trial.

Haftar’s legal representatives described the ruling as a decisive outcome confirming the absence of a sufficient legal foundation for the claims.

They noted that the proceedings followed established procedural rules and evidentiary requirements governing US federal courts.

Legal observers point out that summary judgment reflects a judicial determination based strictly on legal criteria, including jurisdiction, admissibility of evidence, and statutory standards.

The dismissal closes the final pending case before the Eastern District of Virginia at the first-instance level.

With this ruling, the extended legal chapter in US courts concerning Khalifa Haftar has concluded at the trial stage.
