On Tuesday, the official spokesman for Turkey’s Republican People’s Party (CHP), Faik Oztrak, confirmed that Turkey, under President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has made too many enemies, be it in the neighbouring regions, or in the wider world.

In a video interview published by the Turkey Now website, Faik said that Turkey is striving to buy foreign currencies and gold to safeguard the value of the currency. He noted that Turkey’s imports amounted to $16 billion in the first eight months of this year, of which $4 billion was registered in August alone.

He stated that the countries exporting the most gold to Turkey are Iraq, the Emirates, Switzerland, Libya, and Russia. He added that Turkey has imported gold, with a value of $576 billion dollars, during the first seven months of this year.

The spokesman said, “We are between a rock and a hard place,” in reference to the high prices, and unemployment rates, even with the false figures announced by the Turkish Statistical Institute. He claimed that Turkey was one of 24 countries worldwide suffering from very high inflation rates.

Finally, Faik confirmed that the current Turkish government has no reform plans. According to him, Erdogan is unable to address the current economic problems, in addition to committing mistakes in his foreign policy. “We have now run out of friendly countries worldwide, except for Venezuela and Qatar,” he concluded.
