Tunisian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Othman Al-Jarandi, said that he welcomes the ceasefire declaration issued by both the Presidential Council of the Government of National Accord (GNA), and the Parliament in Libya.

During his speech before the 154th regular session of the Arab League on Wednesday, Al-Jarandi said that the ceasefire in Libya was an important step in reaching a Libyan-led solution.

“It establishes a new phase that will enable the Libyan people to achieve their aspirations for security, stability, development, and well-being,” Al-Jarandi said during the video conference meeting.

“The security and stability of Tunisia is an integral part of Arab national security. It is also very important for the security and stability of the entire Mediterranean region,” he added.

The Tunisian FM reiterated his categorical rejection of military solutions, and all “foreign interventions.” He believes that this would only serve to complicate the situation, and prolong the conflict.

Moreover, Al-Jarandi noted that Tunisia has always stood with the Libyan people, and will continue its efforts to help them to achieve their legitimate aspirations.

It is worthy to mention that, the Tripoli-based GNA, declared a ceasefire on August 21. The truce was also agreed upon, by the Parliament.
