Libyan Parliament Speaker and LNA General Commander Arrive in Cairo for Talks

On Tuesday, the Leader of the Libyan National Army (LNA), Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, arrived in Cairo accompanied by a military delegation and the Libyan Parliament Speaker Ageela Saleh. They are due to hold talks on the latest developments in Libya, with a number of senior Egyptian officials.

Sources stated that the visit comes within the framework of coordination and consultation with Cairo. Coordination between Libya and Egypt covers many issues, most notably the fight against terrorism.

On Friday, Haftar announced the resumption of oil production in his country, so long as oil revenues “are not used to finance terrorism.”

LNA Spokesman, Major General Ahmed Al-Mismari, said a committee was formed to oversee the equal distribution of oil revenues. “The committee will consist of Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of National Accord (GNA) Ahmed Maiteeq, tribal sheikhs, and members of the Libyan Parliament,” Al-Mismari added.

Egypt welcomed the ceasefire agreement announced last month. Alongside Moscow, Cairo supports the eastern-based Libyan Parliament. Opposing them is Turkey, which supports the Tripoli-based GNA.
