On Wednesday, French Foreign Minister, Jean-Yves Le Drian, hosted his Emirati counterpart Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Paris.

During the meeting, the two discussed the strategic relations between France and UAE, and ways to further enhance them. Sheikh Abdullah and Le Drian discussed the latest regional and international issues, including developments in Libya. Sheikh Abdullah stressed the importance of reaching a political solution that preserves the unity and territorial integrity of Libya, while restoring state institutions.

On Tuesday, French President Emmanuel Macron said that he wanted to gather Libya’s neighbours, to help find a solution to the conflict. “We will be bringing together all the neighbouring countries, to help bring about the Libyan solution,” Macron said in a speech to the United Nations General Assembly.

Libya’s warring parties are due to meet in Geneva on 15 October, to appoint a new Presidential Council. The Presidential Council is expected to consist of three persons, representing the historic regions of Tripoli, Barqa, and Fezzan.
