On Saturday, the Turkish Navy announced that it had begun a 6-week diving training program for a number of Libyan soldiers of the Government of National Accord (GNA), in Al-Khums city.
In a statement, the Turkish Navy Forces announced that the military training comes within the scope of the Cooperation and Consultancy Agreement signed with the GNA government, headed by Fayez al-Sarraj.
Turkey and the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord (GNA) signed a maritime agreement, as well as a military cooperation deal, in November 2019.
Ankara has been sending thousands of Syrian mercenaries to Libya to fight alongside the GNA after Prime Minister al-Sarraj signed a controversial maritime agreement that gave Turkey drilling rights over vast swathes of the eastern Mediterranean.
Libya has been torn by violence since long-time ruler Muammar Gaddafi was deposed and killed in 2011 by NATO-backed forces.
The country has two rival administrations, the GNA based in Tripoli and recognised by the UN, and the Libyan National Army (LNA), led by Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, in Benghazi.
