Germany, France & Poland Say Libyan Crisis Cannot be Resolved Militarily

October 18, 2020

On Sunday, Germany, France, and Poland confirmed that there is no military solution to the Libyan crisis. They stressed the need to stop all foreign interference and fully implement the arms embargo.

In a joint statement, the three countries said that the European Union’s recent adoption of sanctions against entities that violate the arms embargo is a positive step.

They added that the EU must pursue sanctions against violations of the embargo, illegal oil exports, human rights violations, and saboteurs of the UN-led political process.

Notably, the German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said on Saturday that the conflicts in Libya, Syria, and Ukraine cannot be resolved without the participation of Russia. He added that the situation in Belarus, Nagorno-Karabakh and Venezuela also requires Russian participation to find solutions.
