Oxfam has claimed that the EU’s cooperation with countries such as Tunisia and Morocco, regarding migration and border control, have led to an increase in human rights violations.
It stated that these policies have accelerated arbitrary and violent deportations, leaving men, women, and children to take the risk of sea travel.
The organisation issued an urgent call to the EU to change these policies, starting with the guidelines that will be presented, with the new reform on asylum, and immigration.
In its report, Oxfam stated that “giving North African countries the right to monitor European external borders, without stopping deaths at sea, causes human rights violations not only in Libya but also on the shores of Europe.”
