The Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee in the House of Representatives (HoR), Yusef Al-Agouri, held a phone call with Yaqoub Al-Helou, the Deputy SRSG for Humanitarian Affairs in Libya, to discuss how the UN plans to support the eastern-based Libyan government confront the Covid-19 pandemic.
Al-Agouri revealed that the Foreign Committee has intensified contact with local authorities and international organizations, such as the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) and the World Health Organization (WHO) in order to coordinate measures to contain the pandemic.
He pointed out that the committee is keen to learn from the experiences that other countries have in dealing with the virus and ensure local authorities are well equipped to face it.
The Chairman of Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee stressed that Libyan authorities must follow the instructions and advice of the World Health Organization and benefit from foreign expertise in the face of the global public health crisis.
He pointed out that overcoming the crisis requires concerted efforts between all local authorities in Libya.
Deputy SRSG Al-Helou stressed that UNSMIL is doing its best to coordinate the Libyan response to the virus.
