The Tunisian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Othman Jerandi, stressed the importance of strengthening consultation and coordination with Portugal and other European countries on reaching a permanent and comprehensive political settlement of the Libyan crisis.

This came during Jerandi’s meeting with the Portuguese ambassador to Tunisia, as part of a farewell visit to mark the end of his duties in Tunisia.

Jerandi praised the distinguished level of Tunisian-Portuguese relations, and the fruitful efforts of the Portuguese ambassador, throughout his tenure, in developing bilateral relations.

Jerandi indicated the necessity of continuing consultations between the two sides to further enhance the existing friendship and cooperation.

He stressed the need for concerted international efforts to maintain security and stability in the entire Mediterranean region.

On Monday, Jerandi met with Tunisian President Kais Saied. He briefed the president on Tunisia’s development of relations with brotherly and friendly countries, and ways to strengthen them.

The meeting also touched on the preparations for the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum, which Tunisia will host next week. Saied stressed that this forum will be a real opportunity for the Libyan brothers to agree on a political settlement.

Saied affirmed Tunisia’s relentless endeavour to contribute to pushing towards resolving problems and crises through dialogue.
