The official Vatican website published a press statement on the recent developments in Libya. It described the ongoing UN-led talks as paving the way towards a peaceful political future in Libya.

In its statement, the Vatican said that the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF) discussions will positively plan Libya’s political future.

Representatives of Libya’s opposing factions met on Monday, in Tunisia. It is expected that the LPDF will build on the key 23 October ceasefire agreement signed in Geneva.

Seventy-five delegates representing various sectors of society and political groups attended the LPDF in a suburb of Tunis known as Gammarth. The forum focused on creating a consensual agreement for managing the nation’s affairs, and plan for general elections as soon as possible.
