The Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, has said that Moscow hopes that the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF) will succeed in achieving a real lasting settlement to the crisis in Libya.

In press statements, Lavrov said, “We hope that the ongoing Libyan dialogue in Tunisia results in outcomes that are valid, and able to be implemented on the ground. We are calling on its participants to put the interests of the Libyan people above the narrow-party, and regional considerations.” The forum, which is being held under the auspices of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), includes 75 delegates from various spectrums of Libyan society.

The negotiations, which began on Monday, are being held in a hotel in the resort of Gammarth, on the outskirts of the Tunisian capital. It was reported earlier that the participants had agreed on a roadmap to unify the public authorities in the country.

The Russian MoFA recently welcomed the launch of the inter-Libyan dialogue in the Tunisian capital. This is designed to end the division of the country, help overcome the protracted military and political crisis, and form a new effective national government. This would ensure the unity, territorial integrity, and sovereignty of Libya.
