The former head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), Ghassan Salame, revealed that his hopes to see an end to violence in Libya are greater than ever.

He praised the series of political and military dialogues between the Libyan parties.

In press statements, Salame added that he is optimistic about the political dialogues that took place over the past two months between the two parties to the Libyan conflict.

He pointed out that the conflict cannot be resolved within one day and that a permanent resolution will take time.

Salame explained that Libya will be able to hold relatively secure elections that represent the will of the people during the next six months.

Last month, Salame, voiced his optimism about the peace negotiations in Libya in an interview with France 24. During the interview, he said that “The situation has never been so propitious for a solution to the Libyan crisis.”

The Lebanese diplomat stressed, “I complained, and still complain about the foreign interference in Libya.” Salame claimed that foreign powers have dragged the country to unbearable levels even after “they all came to Berlin and accepted the conference’s conclusions.” “They agreed that they would not send mercenaries, weapons, nor planes to Libya, but they did afterward,” he lamented.
