The French President, Emmanuel Macron, has said that the situation in Libya has had an obvious impact on its neighbours, especially the Sahel region, pointing out that the Libyan crisis led to a deterioration of the security situation in that specific region.
“Trafficking in arms, human beings and drugs has been reinforced throughout the Sahel,” Macron said in an exclusive interview with the French newspaper Jeune Afrique. The French President stressed that the “terrorists” have taken advantage of this to obtain supplies and better organise themselves.
The French president added that many actors have intervened in Libya, including France, and have therefore a share of responsibility in the chaos that has reigned in Libya since 2011.
On Friday, the Interior Minister of the Government of National Accord (GNA), Fathi Bashagha, met with the French Defence Minister, Interior Minister and Foreign Minister in Paris to discuss and enhance joint security cooperation.
