The UK Embassy in Libya has applauded the important progress made by the Joint Military Commission (JMC), calling on all members of the Berlin Process to abide by the commitments they made “in order to seek further progress.”

The embassy said in a statement that the UK is proud to have co-chaired with the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) the Security Working Group at a crucial time for Libya’s peace process in November.

“We facilitated the first meeting with the 5+5 JMC and identified with the group how to best support the implementation of the ceasefire agreement,” the UK Embassy tweeted on Monday.

Al-Fitouri Gribel, a member of the GNA’s delegation in the 5+5 Joint Military Commission (JMC), has said the parties to the conflict are working to remove mercenaries from Libya.

“The JMC has urged the international community to put pressure on countries that have mercenaries in Libya,” he said, adding that, “these forces must be called back and weapons must be prevented from reaching the country, whether by land, sea, or air.”
