LNA Denies Attacks in Ubari

On Monday, the official spokesman for the Libyan National Army (LNA), Major General Ahmed Al-Mismari, denied reports that the LNA’s General Command issued orders to attack the Tendi Military Camp in Ubari.

In a press conference, the spokesman said that an LNA patrol was roaming the southern areas on a reconnaissance mission, adding that the forces only wanted to enter the Tendi camp to rest. A misunderstanding ensued and was quickly resolved thanks to the Ubari dignitaries.

Al-Mismari pointed out that the LNA forces have carried out a military operation over the past few days in Ubari in which they arrested seven terrorists and seized large quantities of weapons and ammunition. He explained that one of the arrested terrorists, Hassan Al-Washi, admitted that there are safe havens in Tripoli housing Al-Qaeda sleeper cells.

Al-Washi also admitted that the shipment of weapons, that were seized by the LNA in Ubari, were scheduled to be smuggled into Mali. The Al-Qaeda member added that the supply lines between the Al-Qaeda branches in Mali and Libya have been severed.

The LNA spokesman also expressed his grave concerns over Turkey’s continued transfer of military equipment, mercenaries, and terrorists from other countries to Libya. He alleged that Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan does not want peace and seeks to void the ceasefire in the country.
