The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) announced on Monday, that it has cooperated with the International Rescue Committee (IRC) on the rehabilitation of two schools in Misrata.

UNHCR tweeted that these are the Shuhada Al Sadad, and Al-Safa schools. It stated that they are now able to accommodate nearly 1,300 students, including internally displaced students and refugees alike.

On Saturday, UNHCR reported that the number of internally displaced persons (IDPs) registered with the agency has now reached 316,415. The number of refugees and asylum seekers exceeds 44,725. It added that it has recorded 928,942 people of concern as of December 2020.

The suffering of IDPs continues due to the exacerbated economic situation in the country, as well as the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

UNHCR and humanitarian organisations provide continuous support to the displaced through financial aid, basic relief items, and small projects.

Persons eligible to benefit from the centre include refugees recognized by UNHCR Libya, asylum-seekers registered with UNHCR Libya, children and youth at risk (registered as refugees), as well as spouses and children of asylum-seekers and refugees.
