The head of the Defence and National Security Committee in the Libyan Parliament, Talal Al-Mihoub, stated that a contract reviewal committee will be formed. This is to evaluate all agreements signed between Turkey, and the Government of National Accord (GNA).
In press statements, he explained that this committee will begin its work after the formation of the new Presidential Council, and government. He added that it would review all agreements and treaties during the mandate of Prime Minister Fayez Al-Sarraj’s. This is “due to their unlawfulness and illegality, and failure to fulfil necessary conditions,” he said.
Al-Mihoub denounced the statements of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in which he said that “the agreements signed with the GNA will remain in force, even after the departure of Al-Sarraj and the arrival of a new authority.” Al-Mihoub added that “President Erdogan seems to forget that the GNA, did not gain confidence from Parliament, the only elected body of the Libyan people.” Therefore, all the agreements are not based on legal and constitutional rules, and are to be considered null and void.
Turkey signed a security and military agreement with the GNA, including a memorandum of understanding on maritime borders. Several countries, including Egypt and Greece, considered these agreements a violation of international law.
