Security patrols affiliated with the Government of National Accord’s (GNA) Ministry of Interior are monitoring the implementation of curfew measures to contain the coronavirus. The night curfew, running from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., is meant to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Security patrols have been deployed throughout the country to implement the night curfew upon the instructions of the Ministry of Interior, according to a statement issued by the ministry on Saturday.

In Nalut, a town near the Tunisian border, the Nalut Security Directorate has conducted security patrols within its municipality and some other areas, while the committee formed by the Jadu Security Directorate, in a town north of Zintan, has worked to sterilize shops and streets, as well as home facades, mosques and other buildings in its municipality.

The GNA’s policy also includes closing markets, shops, mosques, schools, coffee shops, restaurants, parks and banning funerals, weddings and public transportation. Only grocery stores, bakeries and pharmacies will be allowed to open during curfew hours.

It is worth noting that the Libyan National Army’s (LNA) Commander, Khalifa Haftar, issued a decision on March 24 to adjust curfew hours in the territories under the control of the LNA and Interim Government. The curfew now starts from 3 p.m. and end at 7 a.m.
