Will Decisive Libyan Parliament Session in Sirte be Postponed?

The Libyan Parliament has not received a formal request to postpone a session to grant confidence to the new interim government, amid the recent bribery allegations, according to MP Sabah Gomaa.

Gomaa told Al Ittihad newspaper that the government’s formation is due to be handed over to the Speaker of Parliament, Ageela Saleh before the upcoming session on Monday.

Notably, 25 MPs requested Parliament to postpone the session, until investigations into allegations of voting bribery are concluded.

A leaked UN report noted that two participants of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF) allegedly offered bribes of between $150,000-200,000 US dollars to at least three others, if they promised to vote for Abdel-Hamid Dbaiba as PM.

The MPs called for a copy of the report which is being written by UN-experts, before holding the confidence session scheduled for 8 March.

The report is set to be presented to the Security Council on 15 March.
