Libya’s National Centre for Disease Control Launches National Campaign for Resumption of In-Class Education

On Saturday, members of the Libyan National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) held a meeting with the Scientific Advisory Committee at the Ministry of Education at the headquarters of the National Commission for Education, Culture and Science. They discussed launching a national campaign which aims to resume the in-class education nationwide under the slogan of “We return to schools with responsibility… We return with caution.”

In a press briefing, the NCDC said that the campaign aims to spread awareness among all relevant stakeholders and enhance community education so that the resumption of children’s studies does not negatively affect the epidemiological situation.

It noted that the national campaign will be launched in coordination with several partners, headed by the Ministry of Education. It will contain several media outlets, workshops, training courses, posters and road signs, all taking into account the epidemiological situation and the recommendations of the Scientific Advisory Committee.

In 2020, the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) worked with the Ministry of Education to support the safe return of children to schools. UNICEF rehabilitated 31 schools in the East, West and South regions of Libya, providing improved learning environments for nearly 18,867 children.

To ensure the safe re-opening of schools, UNICEF together with the Ministry of Education organized a two-day workshop titled “Safely Back to School”, which included infection, prevention and control measures and targeted education personnel.
