The US Ambassador to Libya, Richard Norland said that the US stands with the Libyan people in “holding human rights violators accountable.”

“Now is the time for Libyans to unite in the spirit of justice, stability, and progress,” Ambassador Norland tweeted. “The US stands with the Libyan people and will continue to use the tools and authorities at our disposal to seek accountability for all human rights abusers, he added.

Ambassador Norland stressed that accountability must extend to those who commit arbitrary and unlawful killings, forced disappearances, or torture.

In an interview with Al-Quds Al-Arabi, he claimed that Washington and other allies will use their diplomatic influence to support the new executive authority in Libya.

The Ambassador stressed the need to hold the upcoming elections on the agreed date of 24 December. This is in order to form a democratically elected Libyan government, expel mercenaries, and restore the country’s sovereignty.
