Turkey sent a new batch of some 380 Syrian mercenaries to Libya on Thursday, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported. It added that the group was transported to Libya via Turkey.
On 3 April, SOHR sources reported that the return of the Turkish-backed Syrian “mercenaries” from Libya had been suspended. On 29 March SOHR sources reported that the destination of the batches which left Libya on 25 March remained unknown.
The Observatory reported that there is an ongoing concern that the withdrawal of these fighters was only a Turkish manoeuvre to appease the media. This is due to there being more than 6,630 mercenaries in Libya, from an all-time high of 18,000 at the height of the war last year.
