Italian Prime Minister, Mario Draghi discussed the latest Libyan developments with United Nations Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres during a telephone call on Tuesday.
The Chigi Palace said that basic global issues such as international cooperation to combat the COVID-19 pandemic, and climate change were discussed.
According to the Italian news agency, Nova, they also exchanged evaluations on the main areas of the international crises, especially Libya.
On Tuesday, Secretary-General of the Arab League (AL) Ahmed Aboul-Gheit chaired a meeting on Libya that included the United Nations (UN), the European Union (EU), and the African Union (AU).
The virtual meeting discussed the joint efforts that the four organizations could undertake in support of the political process in Libya. This is in order to help reach an integrated national settlement process in the North African country.
The quartet meeting witnessed the participation of the UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs Security Policy, Josep Borrell, and Deputy Chairperson of the AU Commission, Monique Nsanzabaganwa.
The meeting reviewed and praised the “important progress that Libya has witnessed over the past months,” including, “reaching a ceasefire agreement and stabilizing the military situation, and holding the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF) under the auspices of the United Nations.”
