Egypt’s President, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, asserted that Egypt is ready to help its western neighbour Libya to protect its strategic borders.
During a meeting with several senior army commanders on Friday, President El-Sisi said that Egypt has the experience and capabilities to assist the Libyan administration.
He added that Egypt has a surplus of electricity, and “we can help our brothers in Libya, and we can export to them between 1000 and 2000 megawatts according to their needs.
He also stressed the need to support the political roadmap in Libya that should culminate in elections in December.
Notably, El-Sisi directed the government on Thursday to harness all its potential and provide all possible assistance to support the Libyan people.
He also announced that all possible support be provided to the Libyans and to increase opportunities of cooperation between their countries to improve their economy, security, and stability.
Libya and Egypt entered a new phase of cooperation after the visit of Egyptian Prime Minister, Mostafa Madbouly, to Tripoli who headed a high-ranking delegation last week.
The two sides signed a number of memoranda including one on the resumption of civilian flights between the two countries, after six years of suspension.
The memoranda also included deals to consolidate the relations between the two countries in transportation, infrastructure, health, electricity, and communications.
