On Saturday, the President of the Libyan Presidential Council, Mohamed Al-Mnifi, held a meeting with the Head of the Libyan Writers Association, Khalifa Ahwas, in Sirte.
During the talks, Al-Mnifi pledged to provide greater support to the country’s authors and writers, praising the association’s pivotal role in developing Libya’s cultural heritage.
The Head of the Presidential Council also stressed the importance of the role of Libyan writers in supporting the country in its transitional stage and holding the upcoming presidential elections, scheduled for December 24th.
Notably, Al-Mnifi’s visit to Sirte on Tuesday was his first, during which he inspected a number of main streets that included shops and cafes.
Upon landing at Gardabiya International Airport, Al-Mnifi was received by a number of security and local officials including leaders of the Libyan National Army (LNA), as well as a number of lawmakers.
A number of residents asked the Head of the Presidential Council to improve their living conditions after years of destruction and wars, according to the Libyan News Agency.
Al-Mnifi expressed hope that the Government of National Unity (GNU), chaired by Abdelhamid Dbaiba, would address various problems in Libyan cities, especially those affected by conflict.
He pointed out that the government recently decided to establish funds for the reconstruction of destroyed cities, including Sirte.
