Austrian Ambassador to Libya Christoph Meyenburg confirmed that the Austrian Embassy to Libya will be moved permanently from Tunis to Tripoli, over the coming period. It will also start providing its services to Libyan citizens, especially with regard to issuing visas.
During his meeting with Libyan Interior Minister Khaled Mazen on Thursday at the ministry’s headquarters, the Austrian ambassador expressed his satisfaction at the security situation in Tripoli, according to a statement by the media office of the Ministry of the Interior.
The ambassador said that the Austrian ministers of interior and foreign affairs will visit Libya in the coming period to consolidate relations between the two countries, as well as to discuss a number of issues of common interest.
The Libyan Interior Minister expressed his aspiration to consolidate relations between the two countries and activate training programs for employees of the Ministry of the Interior. He indicated that the Ministry of Interior has had a draft agreement in the security field between the two countries for years and that the Ministry will seek to update this agreement to benefit from Austrian expertise and facilitate the granting of visas to all Libyan citizens.
Mazen pointed out that Libya and Austria have a strong relationship, as Austria has already implemented several development projects in Libya.
The two sides discussed prospects for security cooperation between Libya and Austria and the necessary security arrangements for the reopening of the Austrian embassy in Tripoli in the coming period.
