The Director of the Moral Guidance Department of the Libyan National Army (LNA), Brigadier General Khalid Al-Mahjoub, said on Tuesday that the Muslim Brotherhood has the most to gain from the instability in Libya. He added that some parties are trying to create a state of chaos and instability, to affect the December elections.
Al-Mahjoub’s comments come against the backdrop of the suicide bombing that killed two security officers in the southern city of Sebha on Sunday, for which the Islamic State (IS) claimed responsibility.
In an interview with Sky News Arabia, Al-Mahjoub claimed that there have been attempts to prove that the military institution is unable to eliminate terrorism. “All these organisations and groups were born from the womb of the Muslim Brotherhood, which uses these groups, whether they are religiously ideological or gangs engaged in fuel smuggling and immigration, and it has a great interest in instability,” he said.
Al-Mahjoub confirmed that the bombing operation Sebha indicates the inability of terrorist organisations to mount a serious campaign. He added that IS no longer possesses sufficient strength, and is only able to carry out such bombings in an area with open borders. “The city of Sebha has open borders, and what is happening in it in terms of unrest is related to what is happening in Chad and Mali”, he stated.
Al-Mahjoub stressed that the Libyan south is witnessing a gradual security improvement, pointing out that the occurrence of such explosions does not mean there was a lack of control. He said that there is a comprehensive plan to increase the security of these areas in the future.
