Egyptian Ambassador to London, Tarek Adel discussed with British Minister of State for the Middle East and North Africa, James Cleverly a number of issues of common concern, including the Libyan crisis.
The media office of the Egyptian Foreign Ministry indicated that they discussed, via video conference, the latest developments in Libya. The two sides also discussed developments related to the repercussions of the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic on travel and aviation around the world, and the current restrictions imposed on travellers from some countries.
It was agreed to continue intensive coordination and consultation between the health authorities in the two countries during the coming period, in order to exchange information and data on the spread of the virus.
On Thursday, during a joint press conference with Libya’s Foreign Minister Najla Al-Mangoush Cleverly stressed that all foreign forces and mercenaries must be withdrawn from Libya without delay.
‘‘We appreciate your support for the Government of National Unity (GNU), and we value British involvement in the success of the outcomes of the Berlin II Conference, which aims to stabilise Libya and the success of the political process,” Al-Mangoush said. She also welcomed Britain’s offer to provide technical support to the political track and the electoral process.
The FM added, “we also appreciate Britain’s willingness to work to put pressure on the countries interfering in Libya, in order to support Libya in making its own political and sovereign decisions.”
